2009 Season – 1st Match Report
October 27, 2009 by croydonladies1Croydon Ladies First XI Match Report 17.10.09
Spencer 2: Croydon 0
Croydon were desperate to halt their run of loses this match, but it wasn’t to be. They started well showing good formation and organisation in the first 35 minutes. Most of the play was in Spencer’s defensive half and Croydon held the majority of possession.
The trust and communication between the Croydon defence was impressive. For example, a brave decision by, Croydon goalkeeper Mrs Burke, to dive at the edge of the D to save a likely goal was backed up by Sarah Norman who stopped the ball on the line after the second wave of attack from Spencer.
The elusive goal could not be found, however, and half time saw no goals for either team
Croydon were caught napping at the start of the second half and a break by the Spencer forwards led to a goal. A second followed about 15 minutes later from a Spencer short corner.
Rebecca Forshaw was Croydon’s deserved player of the match, working, as ever, tirelessly to distribute the ball to the forward line. The precision of the passing and set plays are much improved and the hard-work shown by all at training is translating into a more effective standard of play. Next match is Barnes at home, and it would be an understatement to say that Croydon are hungry for the win.

Croydon v Camberley & Farnborough 18th October 2008
November 5, 2008 by croydonladies1Well… we knew we were in for a tough game, but who knew we’d be a goal down within the first milisecond of the game starting?! To say their forwards were fast would be an understatement… it was like we were fluffy cub defenders and they were big nasty cheetah forwards!…… (its late!!!).
They continued to bombard our defence and we really struggled to get to grips with their tactics, it was only through brilliant goal line clearances from Sarah and LBell that we didn’t go 3-0 down!
When a Camberley player went down injured in the D, us defenders got together for a conflab and changed how we were playing slightly, this change seemed to work. They continued to press us but we managed to hold them and with 15 minutes left of the 1st half Julie took a great goal levelling the score. GET IN THERE MR BALL!
Unfortunately from the restart Camberley ran straight down the other end and regained the lead with another great breakaway goal…… hmmm now we knew why they had scored many goals in previous games. At HT the score remained 2-1.
The HT team talk and juicy oranges were clearly inspirational, Croydon came out a different team in the 2nd half. Passes began to find their target and confidence began to grow. Pammy tied the match 10 minutes in with a glorious deflected goal, and a few minutes later (much to Camberleys surprise) Pammy scored another great goal to give Croydon the lead, and earn herself a well deserved Player of the Match tag!
As the clock began to tick down towards the end of the game we kept our composure to try and keep Camberley out, but once again a breakaway goal gave Camberley a well deserved equaliser.
The match finished 3-3, what a great result for Croydon and a well earnt point. Well played girlies.

Croydon v Surbiton 2 11th October 2008
November 5, 2008 by croydonladies1Well where do i start?!?! It was bl**dy hot again, and boy do i really really really hate playing at Surbiton. . . . .
Surby came out really hard, pressuring our defence time and time again, which i might say is starting to become a bit dull! Fortunately, great tackling on our right from Sarah kept them at bay and LBell stuck to her variety of players on the left like Crazy Glue, frustrating them constantly and well deserving to be voted player of the Match.
I can’t remember their first goal but i’m sure it was distinctly average… very cruise ship….;o)
In the last 10-15 minutes of the 1st half we turned the game on its head, we hit the post, and both Julie and Pammy went soooo close…….. but no cigars! Wendy and Fiona kept feeding that ball into the D but the goal just wouldn’t come and despite numerous goal mouth scrambles the score remained 1-0 to Surby at HT.
The 2nd half started much the same as the 1st, despite us really battling to keep them out and some great saves from Mrs B they snuck 4 more goals past us! Final score 5-0 Surby. Grrrrrrr
NOTE FOR FUTURE MATCHES – LBELL MUST BRING CHOCOLATE TO EVERY GAME, ITS LIKE SPINACH FOR POPEYE, BLOOD FOR A VAMPIRE, PIES FOR WAYNE ROONEY…… you get my drift!
POM – LBELL, a fab game… sorry i couldn’t bring myself to put the result in the paper..
TEAM – SHAZ, NETTY, WEND, BUCKERS, KAZSTER, ANNALIE, FIFI, BECKS, JOOLES, PAMMY, LBELL, BRON
Croydon v Oxted 4th October
October 9, 2008 by croydonladies1Well, what can i say… this was a game of many firsts.
1. Our 1st Prem League game at home.
2. Pammys’ 1st game of the season
3. Bron & Emmas’ 1st Ladies 1 League game
4. Julies’ 1st game with her new stick!
5. No 1 and No 2 supporter both turned up for their 1st game!
…….. oh and have you heard?!?!?!?!
5. Our 1st goal of the season AND
6. Our 1st win of the season
The mist evaporated… we strode out onto the pitch, the whistle blew and the bombardment of our defence began! However, this did not last as long as expected. The defence held firm, the halves tackled back brilliantly and drove the ball forward, the forwards ran tirelessly putting in great crosses and gradually the tide turned.
A few short corners came and went for both sides before a great Croydon move presented Julie with a goal scoring opportunity, new stick at the ready… Julie flicked that ball past the Oxted keeper, striiikkkkeeeeee 1. More chances came our way with Pammy and Emma going sooo close but at half-time the score remained 1-0 Croydon.
The 2nd half started as expected with Oxted again piling on the pressure, yet despite a couple of early chances, they could not find an equaliser. We continued to work hard but this half did not prove as fruitful for us and as the final whistle approached we dropped deeper and deeper inviting Oxted forward.
With a minute to go Oxted won a Corner, and with what i can only describe as a fantastic tackle on the backline, Croydon cleared the ball….. unfortunately our eagle eyed ump Lisa spotted my stick tackle and another corner was awarded.. Rats!
OXTED ready…… CROYDON ready…… Oxted struck the ball out cleanly to their waiting forward, she dragged the ball into the D and struck a hard shot at the Croydon goal. Unfortunately for Oxted and luckily for us the shot was too high (i have the bruise to prove it). Whistle blown, end of game and with 3 points in the bag… off we went to Wallington for some well deserved teas!
Special mention goes to Kaz who had an absolutely brilliant game, she was everywhere… or were their 2 Kaz’s?! A well deserved Player of the Match.
Team – Shaz, Net, Wend, LBell, Buckers, Jules, Cher, Bron, Ems, Pammy, Becks and the Kazster!
